The Carnegie unit, also known as the "credit hour," serves as the standard unit of academic instruction at Creighton University.
One credit hour is defined as the amount of time for student work that is consistent with commonly accepted practice in postsecondary education and that reasonably approximates not less than: (i) one hour of classroom or other direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work each week for approximately 15 weeks for one semester or the equivalent amount of work over a different period of time; or (ii) at least an equivalent amount of work as required for other academic activities such as laboratory work, internships, practica, studio work, and other academic effort leading to the award of credit hours.
