Basic Life Support Certification

PURPOSE 

To provide an organized response to needs for resuscitative services and ensure compliance of faculty, staff, and students with training for the necessary knowledge and skills to provide these services safely and effectively. 

POLICY

School of Dentistry (SOD) students, faculty, and staff involved in the direct provision of patient care must be continuously certified in basic life support (BLS), including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). All non-clinical School of Dentistry personnel are not required but are encouraged to complete BLS training and opportunities will be made to them for this purpose. Registration and records of student participation will be maintained by the School of Dentistry Office of Academic Affairs. The School of Dentistry Office of the Vice Dean will manage the certification of appropriate faculty. The School of Dentistry Senior Director of Operations will manage the certification of staff. (2023)
